Happy Monday!

Since I began writing this newsletter a few years ago, I’ve received dozens of emails from readers who told me their lives have been saved by a pet.

Some shared heartwarming stories about how bringing home an animal helped them cope with depression and/or grief while others wrote to say they discovered a whole new life’s purpose after adopting an animal.

Whatever the case, the testimonials of animal-assisted healing continue to arrive in my inbox. And now, as Eva Wasney reported in last week’s Arts & Life section, a docuseries detailing the many mental health benefits associated with pet rescue is airing on CBC Gem.

Finding Diamond is hosted by Winnipeg filmmaker Ian Bawa and his pooch Diamond, a one-eyed yellow Labrador retriever mix. In the first season, the pair travel across the country talking to people and the pets who helped them “carry on in the face of loss, discrimination, injury and war.”

You can read more – and watch a video clip – about the docuseries here.

Have a great week!
