The ECM systems are sourced and customized and they are not really designed by automobile manufacturers. Only a handful of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) make ECM systems for cars. Each type and brand needs to be customized to fit the specifications of the automotive manufacturer. An ECM needs to be properly configured by the manufacturer so the car can perform optimally, taking into consideration the engine specifications and other factors.
